David Tait Hopes to summit Everest without artificial oxygen

24th April: EVEREST TRIP FINISHED. David’s plan was to head up to Camp 1 today, but whilst in the Khumbu Icefall he felt ill. After bringing up blood from both ends he descended back to Base Camp where he was taken to the BC Medical Tent.

The following morning David was on a helicopter to a Kathmandu hospital.

It was suspected that his teeth were giving him problems again, and this was later confirmed after an x-ray uncovered a further two abscesses under the rear two upper teeth on his right side. These teeth had been filled and root canalled twice before, so the decision was made to remove them once and for all.

After many other tests it was found that he had also ruptured his stomach lining, and damaged his kidneys to a small degree from vomiting.

His Everest attempt was over.

14th April: David has now arrived at Everest Base Camp.
